Description

Probably the most honoured player in the history of British soccer, centre-back Hansen captained Liverpool to its victorious double in 1986; however, an ongoing knee injury effectively ended his playing career in 1991. Fortunately for Hansen and his dedicated fans, the Beautiful Game’s loss was the BBC’s gain when he became the face of Match of the Day Live.

Aside from soccer, Hansen has built a solid reputation for being an excellent motivational speaker and has been known to show his dry sense of humour in television adverts, such as for Carlsberg, when he played a butler, cleaning his master’s football boots!

Despite famously (and erroneously) declaring back in 1995 that, "You won’t win anything with kids", when referring to Manchester United’s League and FA Cup-winning team, Hansen remains probably one of the most respected authorities in sporting media today, contributing weekly columns to the Daily Telegraph, in addition to his television work.
